About the Artist

Joel Mitnick

Fine Artist

After graduating from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Advertising Design and Visual Communications, Joel Mitnick founded Joel Mitnick Design Inc, a full-service graphic design firm that’s been located in Englewood, New Jersey since 1985. Over the last few years, in conjunction with running his successful business, he’s been actively pursuing his passion for painting, mostly portraits.

“My portraits are painted in oil, alla prima, from a live model in a single sitting. I love working this way because it is so spontaneous, fresh and exciting. The challenge in bringing the character, essence and likeness of each subject to life in a simple and uncomplicated style is extraordinarily stimulating and very rewarding.”
